I need to find a home for two of my cats.
We are moving into a smaller place, and though it sends me to weeping, there are two friends of mine who I know cannot make the journey with us. So it comes to this: I need to find a home for two adorable brother cats, Frankie and Charlie. Both are six years old. They don’t have heir nuts but they do have their claws.
They came to us a year ago, after my next door neighbors became embroiled in a drama of rehab and divorce and disappeared over a weekend, abandoning these two funny fuzzy beings. Charlie, the black cat, showed up at our house first. He jumped on my lap one day while I was sitting on my balcony. He desperately rolled around and tried to impress me until I agreed to save him from the pound. I would not have taken him to Animal Services, especially since I know that my area of Los Angeles has a kill policy. Frankie, the fat gray cat, showed up a few days later with a terrible ear wound (we don’t know how it happened), which took weeks to heal. I knew that the grandparents of his original owners were planning to return, first to clean out my neighbors’ house, and then to deposit Charlie and his brother on death row. So, we kept them.
We’ve really grown to love them over the last year, and we’ve even included them in our webcomic. But we already have Pippi and Fargo, and we just don’t know if we can have four cats together in a single bedroom apartment — especially since Pippi seems to despise all cats who are not her.
Let me describe their personalities for you. I’ll start with Charlie:

Charlie is the easy going brother. He’s a lap cat, and he loves to play out doors in the day. At night, he wants to sleep indoors and any soft cubby will do. Typical cat stuff, all that.
Charlie’s personality really shines when he greets you. He’ll jump into your car (as you can see here) and walk with you all the way to your door, talking to you all the while, telling you about his day. If I were to anthropomorphize his personality, I would call him a worrier, but he is definitely leader material. He will lead you to a nice chair where you and he can worry together.
Look at him worry at you:
Now here’s Frankie. He’s the gluttonous, clumsy goof.

Wait, that picture looks too respectable. This is more like it:
Frankie seems to spend all of his time knocking into people, falling down, and picking himself up again. He is only able to walk straight if there is a bowl of food at the end of the line. He would love to meet you and lovingly headbutt you. He is the sort of fellow who will tap you on the shoulder to get your attention, especially if you are currently attending to another cat.

So there they are. We really don’t want to part with them, but unless things change for the better in the next 25 days, we just don’t see any other choice. Of course, if no one else can take them, we will continue to keep them until … well, I don’t know until what. If you live in Southern California, and if you are interested in adopting Charlie and Frankie together (they have to be together), tell me about your kitty credentials by sending me an email: tavicat AT tavicat DOT com. Please only write if you are serious.
